It is called forth by the contemplation of the character and attributes of God, however they are displayed; and it implies a grateful sense and acknowledgment of past mercies. Expressions of praise abound in the Psalms of David, in almost every variety of force and beauty. Ps 33:1; Ps 138:1; Ps 106:2.
